Enhancing values-based beloved local business
Earnest is a much-loved local ice cream shop in Vancouver. Their stores embody a contemporary west coast vibe and their ice cream is top-notch. Their website was hard to navigate and didn’t match their in-person aesthetic.
We helped them build a site that showcased their good work in the community, navigated the user through the store locations and better reflected their brand and in-person experience.

Build Details
- It took some brainstorming to get the user flow of the site right. As an outside group, we didn’t understand not wanting to list all flavours, but when we thought of it more like a restaurant, it made sense to enter the site through the location and once in that location, you see the flavours you have access to.
- From there we created flavour boards that listed flavours in pints, scoops, and sandwiches, which are linkable to each flavour’s page and cross-reference to each location they’re available at. This is truly the engine of the site and incorporates unique illustrations from the Earnest brand.
- The sidebar opening from the side took some playing around with to work out the most accessible format for mobile: should it take up the whole page? Should it stay open or click shut on its own? What makes the most sense for the user while keeping close to how the desktop sidebar works?
